What God Has Done
By Joe Hummer

Theres nothing like the sweet smell
Of a gentle summer rain
The way it touches softly
Upon your window pane

The warm rays of the sun
Sparkle golden on the hay
Butterflies flutter gently
In a symphony of play

Isn't it wonderfull
What our God has done
How delicate a snowflake
The way the rivers run

Isn't it wonderfull
Look and you will see
The sunshine softly kissing
Each bud on every tree

I wrote this poem years ago in the early 50s. I am now 68 and am into full time gospel Lyric writing I find these old verses to be interesting.

October

October's early morning light
Birds are out for early flight
In the valley deep below
A morning mist a golden glow

Wild flowers open up your eyes
In time to see a new sunrise
What beauty nature paints to view
The hand of God a picture drew

I can smell October near
Wild grapes and mellow pear
Heavy dew hangs on the grass
Cool breezes fill the air

A sense of calm came over me
As I sat beneath the willow tree
I knew I could safely say
God blessed this October day.

A Precious Prize
 by Joe Hummer

I love the meadow
Where the tall grass grows
Where the heron and egret nest
Where time rest

The fields and the meadow
Are home to me
Where the chestnut trees
And the prim rose grow
And the cool streams gently flow

The hills in the distance
stretch before my eyes
This is where God's beauty lies
A gift, a precious prize

How often I've walked
These gilded fields
Where there is beauty abound
So quite, there peace I found
