February 3, 2003 - Special Tribute to Columbia
Welcome to 2TheHeart!
This is a special issue of 2TheHeart, dedicated to the heroes who perished on board the space shuttle Columbia. Our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones who grieve for them. Please join me in remembering them, as well as our troops in prayer today.
MISSION COMPLETE
'Tis a sad day today in the US of A,
In Israel, and around the world;
As the Columbia crew was headed home
On a glide, with its wings unfurled.
They were seven of NASA's finest,
Men and women of varied race,
Who'd gone beyond the bonds of Earth
And traveled throughout space.
So bright the sun, so blue the sky,
Their mission was complete,
Their thoughts now turned to families,
Their waiting arms to meet.
But partway through their final glide,
Mid trails of smoke and exhaust,
An explosion ripped the Texas skies,
And seven lives were lost.
Those seven men and women now
Will e'er the blue skies roam,
For they have earned their angels' wings;
NASA--we are home.

I am the mother of two lovely daughters and Gramma to one beautiful little four-year-old granddaughter. I live in a quaint little village in upstate New York with my two cats. I work for a community action agency and in my spare time love to write poetry--several of which have been published--spend time with my granddaughter, take long walks, take photographs, volunteer at a local nursing home, play handbells and sing in the church choir.

The Winds of Sorrow
When the storms of life are raging
And the winds of sorrow blow,
Relief is not found in endurance
But in peace that you can know.
A peace that comforts the heart
When the words of men just fail,
As waves of grief come crashing
And on the shore of the mind assail.
When your logic and understanding
Cannot begin to adequately explain,
Those bitter tears flowing down
And the questions that arise again.
Remember that nature's Master
Whom the winds and waves obey
Would never leave you all alone
Ever on duty each night and day.
He understands your heart's sorrow
From the storms that come and go,
And He covers your life with grace
When the winds of sorrow blow.
There have been many others
When troubled by tempests strong
Who cried out for their Master
And did not have to wait long.
His comfort is expressly specific
And His peace meets every need.
He stills that inward turbulence
When His precious Word we read.
Heartaches will paint your horizons
Yet true wisdom you will show
By seeking shelter in His presence
When the winds of sorrow blow.
