The Bus Ride
by Travis Beck

Many years ago when I was a very young man, I lived at home with my parents.  I had a fulltime job at Sears in my hometown. Since I did not own a car at that time, I would walk a block to the bus stop and ride the city bus to work.

The seating on the bus had two bench type seats on each side of the bus up front. Every morning, seated on the same bench seat, was an elderly man in his late sixties or early seventies. He always carried an umbrella with him. I would normally set next to him or on the same bench seat. At various times I was able to talk with him and found that most
folks just called him Pops. Pops told me that he rode the bus to a certain location each day, then walked back home. After a heart attack, his doctor had told him to start walking more. So he walked about two miles each day.

One morning, as I sat next to him talking, I noticed a couple of ladies that were seated across from us. They were whispering to each other and smiling toward us. I was unable to hear what they were saying. During the whole bus ride, this continued.

After this had occurred several mornings, I had had my curiosity wound up to its peak. I decided that I was going to sit across the aisle on the bench seat that the two ladies usually sat on. I thought that I might be able to hear what they were talking and smiling about.

As I got on the bus, I spoke to Pops, but sat down across the aisle. At the next bus stop, the two ladies got on the bus. They seemed to be a little irritated that I was seated on 'their bench seat'. A few minutes later they began to whisper and smile at Pops. Suddenly, I realized why the whispers and smiles. Pops' trousers were unzipped. As long as he was
standing, you could not see that the trousers were unzipped. Yet when he sat down, the trouser fly would open wide revealing his underwear.

I did not want to embarrass him any more by telling him in public. When the bus arrived at my bus stop, I whispered to the bus driver about Pops' trousers. The driver said he would tell Pops as he got off the bus.

The next morning when I got on the bus, I sat down by Pops. He thanked me for helping to take care of a situation he had had, namely forgetting to zip his trousers each morning before he left for the bus stop. He said he had placed a large note on his dresser to "Check My Zipper".

When we arrived at the next stop, the two ladies got on the bus and seated themselves across the aisle as usual. After they were seated, Pops stood up, bowed to the ladies and said, "Ladies, I know that you have been viewing my show each morning. I hope you have enjoyed it very much. I was told that it was generating so much heat, that I would have
to terminate the show. Therefore, my theatre is closed".

Both ladies were so embarrassed that they turned a very bright red. The next day, the two ladies were not on the bus. After several days with no ladies, we asked the bus driver if he knew anything about them. He laughed, "The ladies now ride the next bus. They were so embarrassed after Pops closing his theatre, they couldn't face him again."

Dear Susan,
It's funny how reading one of the stories in your newsletter will trigger old memories......I read the "panty" stories, and an old scenario was played back in my mind. My story too, was from the WW2 days...we were living in a tiny town where everyone knew everyone and everything..I was a young girl then and because of the war, my panties didn't even have elastic!! They had buttons!

One day, walking home from school, a button popped, and I got this horrified feeling, not knowing what to do. I kind of squeezed my thighs together tightly, and because of that, had this odd little shuffle! The boys who were with us of course, started asking and teasing.......back in " them thar days" a young lady didn't mention their undergarments
around mixed company....I whispered to my girlfriends what the problem was, and they started tittering, finding it hilarious, but agreed to help.

At that age,"chasing the girls" was a fun thing to do for boys, so the girls took off running, and of course, the boys followed.....and I stepped behind a car and took off my panties ( we only wore dresses in those days) and stuffed them in my pocket! Another disaster diverted, but later, of course, the story went around the school and I had to undergo heavy teasing for a few days!

I love your newsletters, and want to thank everyone who has contributed, it colors my world with a broad brush!

I am a widow these days, but have an active social life in spite of being handicapped by several chronic diseases, Fibromyalgia being the major one. I lead a support group for this disease, and that is my passion these days. Since my family all live in other areas and states, I especially enjoy my visits online to my favorite sites.....this being one of them.
