Little Box of Memories

by Travis Beck

There it sat, a little box,

On a shelf by itself.

It seemed so lonely,

With no one else around.

But it was not lonely at all.

It smiled to itself,

As the memories it had seen

Began to unfold.

It had the memories of the first

Day as a member of the family.

So many memories of

All the smiling and happy faces.

The first memories of the children

And all their First thereafter.

At birthday parties and Christmas morn,

All the gifts and wrappings were explored

With colorful memories so vividly built.

There were memories of family reunions,

And memories of family fishing trips.

It had the memories of those country visits,

So anticipated and wished for.

There were memories of smiles on faces,

As those glorious odors escaped

From grandmother's kitchen.

Memories of children at play,

Then graduating as time passed so fast.

The memory of the smile on a son's face,

As he stood proudly in his new military uniform.

A smile that will be remembered,

Though it was the last one seen.

All these memories were instilled,

As fast as the wink of an eye.

The small eye of the little black box,

My Little Kodak Camera.
