November 3, 2000 - Blame It On the War Welcome to 2TheHeart's Funny Friday!

Beginning with Maxine Wright's story, which prompted my own story, which prompted today's story, we seem to have started some kind of "Panty" story trend!
Blame it on the War by Pat Kellemeyer This happened in 1943 when I worked in the steel mill office. One day a friend and I took off to have lunch 'downtown'. We had finished eating and were strolling up fifth street toward the bank, when I felt the elastic give way on my panties. Girls didn't wear slacks back then, and especially not to work. With every step I could feel them slipping down further and further.
I punched my friend and told her what was happening to see if she had any ideas on what I could do. She said "Don't worry - if they fall, I will take care of it." And that's all she would say.
More apprehensive with every step, I continued walking very carefully, when all at once I could feel them let go entirely and the next thing I knew they were around my ankles! I stopped dead and prayed for the groud to open up and swallow me, but no such thing happenend. However, my friend, true to her promise, saved the day. She stopped dead in her track, raised her arm and her voice, pointed to the roof of the the National Bank building and yelled "Don't jump, Mister! Please don't jump!"
Of course, everyone's attention was riveted on the bank building and I quickly stepped out of my panties, stuffed them in my purse and we went merrily on our way.
We could scarecly wait to get back to the office to tell the other girls what had happened. One thing I will say for Dottie - she was really a fast thinker and she certainly save me from a major embarrassment!
Thinking back onit, I am sure that the elastic they were making back then was not up to snuff, because of all the rubber being diverted to the war effort. At least that sounds better than saying I was getting 'too big for my britches'!
