A ROSE IN MY GARDEN

There's a rose in my garden this morning
A rose of a beautiful hue.
A rose in my garden this morning
A rose that reminds me of you.

You were with me the day that I planted,
This rose of  a beautiful hue.
Now that you have departed,
This rose is all I have of you.

For 22 years we were married.
And you were the pride of my heart.
Death has come between us,
And forced us two apart.

Autumn will kill the rose,
And winter will cover the ground.
I'll be alone with my memories,
Until summer comes around.

There will be a new rose in my garden,
New life springing anew.
But in my house of memories,
There will only be thoughts of you.

For God has taken my loved one,
You rest 'neath a stone.
And someday I shall join you,
And neither of us will be alone.

For God in his mercy shall join us,
Unite us in a haven of peace.
For there is a place in eternity,
Where all our loneliness will cease.

I'm submitting this poem posthumously for my father.  He wrote this in Dec. 1968 after he had lost the love of his life.  He lived 22 years after she did and went to his eternal rest on August 25, 1990.  He loved the Coast Guard and his grandchildren.  He was a life long resident of Ogden, Utah.
