Does someone you know deserve flowers?
October 19, 2001 - Special Letter to 2TheHeart

Welcome to 2TheHeart!

I will be sending out today's story by Sue Henley in a couple of hours, and for those of you on the Funny Friday list, I will also be
sending out Travis Beck's FF story at that time.

This special issue of 2theheart is to share with you all a letter I
received this morning from Maxine Wright. For those of you who aren't familiar with Maxine, she has been one of our regular writers for both 2theheart & Funny Friday for the past two years. She is the sweetest, most humble, most loveable people I know. Her stories have made her near and dear to our hearts. Last July Maxine underwent surgery to remove a small brain tumor at the base of her brain. It was supposed to be fairly "simple" and all would be well soon after the surgery.  It has now been three months, and Maxine has been hospitalized several times since then, with bacterial meningitis, inablitly to swallow, hold her head up,constant choking, and a plethora of other side-affects from steroids and from the surgery that have practically broken her normally strong spirit.

Yet many of us reached out to her over these past months, and after yesterday's surgery to hopefully correct some of the side affects, she was able to go home and even able to send the following letter  to everyone at 2theheart:

Dear Susan & 2theheart Family,

There are so many things in life we take for granted everyday; things that we know are just suppose to happen and we never have to think about them. That's how God designed it because He knew we would never be able to function if we had to tell ourselves to breathe or to swallow for example. But when you lose any of these normal functions, you suddenly realize how precious and fearfully made our bodies are.  Over the last few months, I have learned to appreciate the small stuff.

One of those small things I have learned to value more are my
friends.  I came home from the hospital on Thursday and when I walked in the door there was the most beautiful vase of two dozen yellow roses on my kitchen table. I first thought after all the oohs and ahhs that Larry and the girls had sent them.   My next thought was, "He hasn't worked in two weeks and he still sends me flowers.  What a Guy."  Then I saw the note.  I was floored when I found out they were from you all.  I just cried.  No one has ever done anything like that for me.  Thank you can not begin to be enough words.

Through all of this you all have been there with cards, gifts, phone calls, letters, and most of all prayers.  Susan, has been beyond
human kindness.  I hear from her nearly every week.  She has spoiled me rotten.  If  I lived closer to her, I would adopt her and take her to raise.  I know Angel would be so proud of you because you are doing what she did and what you promised her you would
to....LIVE!...and you are touching hearts like you will never know.   The rest of you have been this as wonderful and I love you all for all you have done.

Some of  you are old enough to remember all the elephants jokes of the 60's. There is one that has stuck with me all these years.  It goes like this. "How do you know that the elephant has been in the refrigerator?  You will see his footprints in the butter. Well, each unseen face and each unknown name has left footprints in my heart and I will never forget it!  And Susan you plopped right in the middle of my heart of heart and you are stuck there.

Thank you again.  I love you all.  maxine
