I am pleased to share another heart-tugging story by John. To see the picture in John's story, click here: www.2theheart.com/today_s_story
"The Picture" by John Gaudet
The only picture I have of my brothers and sisters as children was taken at a foster home that my brother Able was staying on. It shows us all gathered around a lamb and we are smiling as we look into the camera. The feelings of dread that the day would end are still with me as strong as they were that moment.
We had all been placed in a convent for about a year and when it closed and we were all shuffled off to different foster homes. We lost touch with each other and the only news we got was through the occasional visits from the social worker who would come to see how we were "adjusting".
I would ask where my brothers and sisters were only to get vague replies that they were at different farms and that they were doing alright.
This was heartbreaking to me beacause of the promises we made to each other to protect and stay together no matter what. I really missed my siblings and was doing quite badly at school and in my foster home when I got word that they were going to grant us a visit for a day.
My heart sprang for joy when I heard that I would finally see my family again. The feelings of utter lonlieness and unattachment for me were overwhelming and it would be so nice to see a familiar face again. I fidgeted and squirmed around all morning that day untill the black sedan from social services pulled into the yard. I sprang out of my chair and ran from the house, I couldn't get into that car fast enough.
As he drove he asked how I was doing and I claimed to be alright. It was my standard answer to all adults. To tell the truth I don't think I could have had a valid conversation with anyone at that time I was so excited.
When we drove in the yard and I seen my little brother Able standing there, looking so much like my dad that I started to cry. We all gathered around and bawled as we loked into each others faces. It was very emotional and I still see my brothers and sisters like I did that day. With love and utter acceptance.
The day was so short and before I knew it the worker was sheparding me back into the car and I was whisked away to the farm again with a memory of myself looking back out the window and seeing my brothers and sisters crying as we drove away.
The picture arrived by mail two weeks later and that was literally the last time I would see them again untill we were all adults and we found each other again. That reunion was just as sweet as the first with all pretense stripped away as we looked into each others' eyes after a lifetime without each other.
We all talk now often, and we can't imagine fighting or a life without each other so it was quite a shock to recieve the phone call from the RCMP informing us that our little brother Able had died in a late night car accident. We buried him in the north among ancestors and relatives he never knew or met and we held each other a little tighter that night.
Life rolls on and takes loved ones with it, but the memories live forever... memories of a kid with a lamb visiting his brothers and sisters. The picture holds the image but my heart holds the memories.

The Gaudet family would like to send our deepest sympathy and prayers to the families of the soldiers injured in the war. There is no greater sacrifice or honor than to give your life for something you cherish and believe in so deeply. It really is a blessing to have those brave young men and woman holding the front lines and defending a way of life that all of us on this continent have grown to hold so dear. I only wish that our leaders here in Canada would have taken a stronger stand on these issue's but as in every government they do what they think is right even though it doesn't sit well with everyone. God Bless You All and God Speed home.

The Letter Box:
2theheart, Yes, it is great to read a new story by Amanda Krug. It has truly been too long, we hope to read some more by her soon. e fan Cathy Haddad <><
Amanda, What a sweet story. Being a Grandma of a little boy who just turned five, I can relate to that one. He's about grown out of the cute little things he used to come up with, but the memories will always be there. He still thinks he knows everything though. Love ya, Betty
Re: "Answered Prayer" I have adopted a marine to write too and also started writing my son -in-law who is on a ship in the gulf. I hope to get a pkg. out to each. laurie
Susan, Thank you for publishing the testimony "Answered Prayer." I like to ponder over the protection that prayer provided. Who knows how Josh may have been wounded had it not been for a faithful prayer warrior.
What an awesome delight that must have been to Patricia as she viewed her special soldier before her very eyes. That testimony fans our flames to keep on praying!
